BOATING TIPS -- January 2000
Miracle Cleaner

Joe Coons

So there I was, finishing up the worst job on a boat, replacing some holding tank hoses and the Y-Valve. Ugh! Time to clean up and sanitize.

I looked in the usual places for the necessary cleaners: There were none; I had used them all or taken them off the boat. But there was a spray bottle of “Lysol Basin, Tub and Tile Cleaner”. “What the heck,” I thought, “I'll try it.” After all, the site of my efforts was the engine room.

Well, it was amazing. That stuff cut through the accumulated grime and made my bilge boards like new. Smelled good, too! So, using paper towels, I'd squirt an area, wipe it off, repeat. Engine mounts, valve covers, engine block, floorboards. They all came out looking like new. No rinsing required, no dirty bilge water overboard (I checked later to be sure my non-rinsing was OK; it was).

That cleaner, far cheaper than “marine” cleaners, is the best grime-cutting stuff I've ever used. Try it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
