Joe Coons
By now, an awful lot of folks are using the Internet, and I'm no exception. Here are some thoughts on some sites:
www.byc.org This is the BYC site maintained by Past Commodore Steve Ross. It has more than 90% of everything you'll need for local cruising...including BYC news, past Jib Sheets, coming events calendars, and something I really like, "links" to the U.S. and Canadian Marine forecasts! I enjoy looking these up early in the morning of a cruise and printing them for reference.
www.boatingsafety.com This site is maintained by Sea Tow services international, and is the boating "data bank." Notices to mariners, safety info, EPA data, and more, plus lots of links to a slew of other sites that are valuable to any boater.
www.rngend.com This is the Maryland International Boating Library, with all kinds of articles and reference information.
www.seabooks.com This is the Armchair SailorSeabooks of Rhode Island site, with a 35,000 book/video/chart database.
www.seamag.com The Sea Magazine website. Check it out for west coast news. For the fun of it, try looking up your boat manufacturer on the web‹you might learn about lots of things you never knew were there! And in the meantime, happy, safe, and "well documented" cruising!
