BYC 2005 Racing Season - Instructions, and Charts

Sailing Calendar

Race Committee Info and Schedules

Welcome to the Bellingham Yacht Club’s 2005 Racing Season!  This year you will notice a few changes in your race packet. There are now Long Distance Instructions and charts to make everything more clear. The regular Sailing Instructions have been streamlined and cleaned up from last year. Please review the 2005 Racing Schedule Notes on the next page.

This season we will be bringing back the Performance Cup on July 30th . This is a challenging and fun race for everyone. Individual packets for this race will be handed out just prior to the start.  Another race which is fun will be the return of the Marmetta Cup on August 6th. This is our only Reverse Start race. If you intend to participate, please contact Mick Corcoran or Michele Hurst at least two days prior to the race so that they will have time to predict your start time.

Another tentative addition to the racing this year, is a Fall Series beginning the first Wednesday after our annual PITCH regatta.. This is incumbent upon having volunteers for race committee and a Committee Boat.

A reminder that the Bellingham Yacht Club is an all volunteer club. Please be respectful of those behind the bar who are serving you. Skippers will be held accountable for the behavior of themselves and their crew while on the water and in the club. I would like to encourage those of you who enjoy our hospitality to also tip generously to the Jr. Sailing program. The hotdogs and burger sale profits also benefit the Jr. Program.

PHRF and PIYA are the two overseeing entities that govern our racing. Thank you for providing your PHRF certificate. If you need to obtain one, please contact Rocky Goodhope at 647-1484. It is required that a completed PIYA form, available for download at www.byc.org, be carried on your vessel during racing. It is mandatory that all boats racing (except one design) are in compliance with Category III requirements. To show support for PIYA, we will be performing random checks from time to time to be sure that everyone is in compliance with the equipment requirements on the form. We feel that this is an important safety issue. If your boat is selected , you will be notified a week prior to the inspection.

I would like to thank in advance all those involved with the Race Committee work, Mark Boat Drivers, and Committee Boat owners. Without your efforts and support, it would be difficult to do all this.

As always, volunteers are always needed and appreciated. If you’d like to volunteer in any way, please contact Michele Hurst or myself.

Have a fun and safe boating season,

Mick Corcoran
