BYC Commodore's Column April 1999

Commodore's Column

Chuck McCord, Commodore

Finally we have made our reorganization decisions! I want to personally thank all the members who attended the March 10th meeting and helped guide us through the changes by expressing their views and concerns, and voting. I would also like to thank the officers for "burning the midnight oil" at all the meetings putting it together.

This started years ago during Norrin Heggem's watch when we decided to lease out the restaurant; we've been changing ever since! Though we lost members in the last four years, we have weathered the storm and are heading for calmer waters. These changes will help us in our re-growth and keep us on course. Now we can focus on having fun!

Thanks to Fleet Captain Bob Knudson and wife Rose for the corned beef and cabbage at the meeting. Roberta and I are sponsoring the meal on Wednesday, April 7th, 1800 hours. She is preparing barbecued spare-ribs and I'll serve beer & wine.

Opening Day is right around the comer. The theme this year is "The Fabulous 50's". Guys, slick up the hair, put on the tee shirts, etc. and gals, peddle pushers/Capri pants are back in style this year (so Roberta tells me). The basket raffle was such a big hit last year, we've decided to do it again. Come down to the Club for some great fun and camaraderie.

Also for you boaters, don't forget the tax relief cruise April 16, 17 & 18 at Friday Harbor. This is a joint cruise with Wheel & Keel so please reserve your spot early.

Welcome aboard new members! (See page 8.) Also, welcome to two new trustees, Tom Selman, taking over for Bob Knudson who was appointed Fleet Captain, and Bob Howard, who is taking over Larry Spiry's term.

We are preparing a membership E-mail address book, so if you have E-mail, please drop me a line with your address. My E-mail is saltychuck@aol.com. See you at the next meeting April 7th!
