Commodore's Column

Its time to give members an up-date on the internal activity and club progress. Things are positive !

First of all, we no longer have employees. We are becoming a volunteer organization. Joe Coons has become our assistant treasurer, handling all the Club's bookkeeping. Bob Kehoe is our dock master, in charge of all the moorage agreements and our reciprocal dock.

Meanwhile, all the Flag Officers and Trustees are very busy reorganizing the way your club functions.

There are three basic projects that we are concentrating upon: (1) Turning the management and responsibility for running the building over to a separate management group that are duly elected by the members for the single purpose of taking care of building responsibilities; (2) Working with the Policy & Planning committee to adjust the bylaws to accommodate the changes; and (3) Developing ways with the Fund Raising Committee to raise money to help retire our debt of $211,500.

The good news is that we will be ready to present these changes to the membership February, 10, 1999. We want your input so be sure come to the meeting.

Although our financial condition is currently positive due to the dramatic cuts in costs, there are still a few members who have not come through with their 1998/99 dues. Statements will go out soon. Please pay!

Note the story about the cruise planning meeting, and help to organize our 1999 cruise schedule! We have lots of real good reciprocal spots that cut members' cruising costs. And how about a fishing cruise to Rivers Inlet, BC ?

We are working for the benefit & fun of all members, committed to reorganizing the BYC and keeping it for more fun and camaraderie.
