Congratulations to new Fleet Captain John Gargett, serving the un-expired term of Bob Knudson, who resigned due to increased professional commitments. Thank you Bob, and thank you John!
Last month I asked you to consider volunteering for Club committee work. Well, I want to thank all of you who called me to offer your help. I am constantly impressed with the help offered by everyone. You're great! And this is what makes the BYC such a great club.
Dick Johnson, Building & House Chairman, is looking for help getting the El Toro Room finished and some work outside. Keith McLean and crew are working on the projects, but can be finished quicker with a few more hands. Call the BYC, call me at 201-8999 or call Dick.
June's Fridays at Five (F@5) were well attended and a lot of fun. First Friday Joe & Judy Coons hosted and showed a video - the 1999 U. S. Sailing highlights. He said it was short and would only be about 20 minutes. It was over 45 minutes and no one left!!. What great shots and some truly magnificent racing! Dick Johnson did the third Friday. Again, fun. What a great way to end the week: boating friends meeting and discussing common interests. If you want to be on the e-mail list for future event reminders, please e-mail me at semoore@televar.com. I'll see that you’re notified of the F@5's, cruises and programs.
Jody Erickson's Program Committee did it again June 13! The theme was Chartering in the Islands. Roger & Marlene Van Dyken of San Juan Sailing, Bryan Archer of Bellhaven Sailing and Joe Coons of Grand Yachts gave an excellent program that more might consider doing. The next program will be the 2nd Tuesday in July - “Kayaking the San Juans“. You’ll see things we take for granted while island boat-cruising! Kayaking: another way to go boating!
Many of you have contributed to the Life ring program, which reduces our debt - substantially!! Karen Callery and committee are asking that you not forget this important effort, contining to send pledges and contributions. As debt is reduced, so our programs increase.
CRUISES! Now 'tis the season. And what fantastic voyages we have planned. July 8-9 to Chuckanut Bay with Larry & Louise Boone and Al & Karen Callery for the now "Annual" crab fest. I'm told that there will be more than enough crab and other "stuff". Then July 14-16 to Oak Bay with Joe & Judy Coons. There is only room for 12 boats. Call Joe quick.
Tom Selman and Keith McLean still have two cruises looking for cruisemasters: Blakely Island August 5-6, and Prevost Harbor August 25-27, both close enough for sail and power to attend. At this writing I didn't yet have a report on the Sucia Island cruise chaired by Quinn & Roberta Selsor. And for those not going to Race Week at Whidbey Island, you're invited to the 7th Annual Moore Invitational on Bellingham Bay. It's a short race and then raft-up later. Entry fee is a pot luck dish. Easy!
If you're using Inati Bay, the BYC's Outstation, please fly your burgee. And say “HI” and “Thanks” to Dave & Penny Bradley on CURREN$EA. They voluntarily maintain the grounds keeping them looking nice for everyone. And a non-member at Inati might even say “Thank you” to YOU! Some did to Jack & Lisa Black! Now those visitors are members . . .
See you all on the water or at the club!
