Were you at Opening Day? If not, you missed a heck of a party! Karen Callery, Jack Black, Marlene Bolster, Peggy Boushey, Lorretta Palagi, Loraine Boland and the First Mates, and many others worked hard to produce one of the best Opening Days ever! All I had to do was sit back and answer a few questions. We had about 60 boats in the parade, which was pretty good considering the iffy weather conditions.
Glen Friedl and family took first place for turning their Sea Ray into a Privateer, complete with cannons. Glen is now researching methods to remove smoke residue from fiberglass. Honorable mention goes to everyone else. Oh, and a special note of recognition to our front-page star, Bob Kehoe.
Thank you to all of you who made Opening Day 1997 very special for Meredith and me.
And now, Summer is upon us. We're scaling back the Fridays at Five to about every-other Friday. Sometime soon we will have a Wednesday at Five in lieu of Friday (see the schedule elsewhere in the Jib Sheet). On that day, all you non-sailors are invited to join Fleet Captain Black and me, on our boats, to go out and watch the sailing races. Meet us on the BYC dock immediately in front of the Club at 5:00. Bring whatever refreshment you'd like to enjoy on the water. After the event, we'll go back to the Breakwater and partake of the "sailor buffet" - a hearty meal for only $5.00.
Lots of other things going on this summer, for both boaters and non. Check the Jib Sheet or call the officers for more details.
With the accession of the new dock, BYC now has about 140' of space to rent to its members who don't have permanent moorage in Squalicum Harbor. If you have a boat but no place to put it, call Fleet Captain Black for more information. We're saving 100' of the dock for reciprocal moorage, and for temporary use by members.
Enough for now … see you at the Club or on the water!
