The Jib Sheet editor told me that, since I was late as usual, I couldn't write as much this month. That's OK with me… here are a few observations about events past and future.
Our Coordinator of Programs is Pamela Kelley. She and her husband Ron have been BYC members for several years, and she brings a wealth of experience to the job. Her job is to coordinate our efforts, not to do our work, but we can expect that her knowledge will help us be more productive volunteers. Her normal schedule will have her in the office Monday-Thursday, 10-3 p.m.
April 11-12 saw a group of BYC boats in Fossil Bay on Sucia Island. When we planned the cruise, we thought the AYC Tulip regatta raced to there, but the course was changed this year so we had lots of peace and quiet-and a good time. Plan to join us at our rendezvous in Inati Bay May 17-18.
The weekend of May 31-June 1 will be busy, as we hold a junior regatta, an open house, and an auction to support the junior sailing program. Among the things the auction will support are three scholarships for the summer learn-to-sail program. If you have something to donate, please call Marlene Bolster at 671-5772.
On May 1, we take possession of the BYC dock (the 235' lateral immediately in front of the clubhouse). About 60% of the dock will be used for moorage for BYC members who do not have slips in Squalicum Harbor. The remainder will be devoted to reciprocal moorage, at least during the cruising season. The Board is busily developing the policies and procedures. If you would like a space at the dock, please call Fleet Captain Jack Black at 671-0327.
Fridays at Five will continue into the Summer, check the Jib Sheet for the programs. And finally, Opening Day is May 3, hopefully after you receive this issue. Come on down, check out the new docks, and have a bit of fun.
