My first official act was to appoint Karen Callery as Fleet Captain. Karen is well organized, has a great sense of humor, and brings a high level of energy to projects. She served as a Trustee and chaired most committees.
Appointed to the Board to serve the unexpired terms of Karen Callery and Lorretta Palagi are Michele Johnson and Phil Dyer. Thanks Karen and Lorretta, for serving as Trustees. Meredith Ross agreed to serve as the Publicity Chair, and Ray Nelson as our RBAW Representative. We are still looking for a Club Librarian. The Librarian oversees the charts, books, photos, documents, and publications, and acts as Club Historian. If you are interested in this post, please contact one of the officers or the Coordinator of Programs.
The interim Coordinator of Programs has been Diane Moore. If you have had the pleasure of working with Diane you know how fortunate we have been having Diane's skills and dedication as interim C.O.P. Heather Richendrfer is the new Coordinator of Programs. Heather has extensive background in administrative service, community service, and is a life long resident of Whatcom County. Diane, thanks for a job well done and success in your teaching career.
Past Commodore Steve Ross's service to the Bellingham Yacht Club is continuing as our WEB Master, www.byc.org. If you have not looked the Bellingham Yacht Club's home page you have missed an interesting and informative trip into cyber space. Steve gives us a means of reading the Jib Sheet, reading about coming events, looking up members' e-mail address, reading about club history, and much more.
Steve will leave his mark on the Bellingham Yacht, however his last action as Commodore really came from down under. A City of Bellingham sewer lift station malfunctioned, flooding the basement with material from the sewer system. The result was everything in the basement had to be removed. New carpet has been installed, walls painted, and years' worth of club documents replaced. Rear Commodore Steve Moore spent many hours working with the City of Bellingham contractors, cleaning company, painters, and Building and House Committee and Chair Mike Minge, putting the building back together. Thanks Steve and Mike.
I would also like to thank Chair Roberta McCord and Pandora Larner for the work on the Commodore's Ball. A special thanks is also due to Penny Bradley. Penny was able to make her musical debut as a guest singer. This year, the Yacht Club and the Bellingham Navy League, Captain Jack Meyers, U.S.N.R., co-hosted the event. The Ball's guest of honor was Rear Admiral Bill Center and his wife Karla. I think all who attended had a good time.
