CRUISE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES MORE PLANS FOR SUMMER CRUISES
Details are yet to be finalized but here is current information for summer cruises:
Memorial Day Weekend at Ganges, Salt Spring Island; See April issue of The Jib Sheet, page 1 for details. If you have not signed up, please do so ASAP. (You can use the BYC website). Or call, Joe and Judy Coons, Cruisemasters.
Sail Race to Point Roberts, June 26 and 27. Basically a two day Sailing Fleet Race to Point Roberts on Saturday and return on Sunday. Mick Corcoran, Sail Fleet Captain, asks for power boat participation, partly to serve as “Mother Ships” providing overnight berths for sailors. Quinn Selsor has agreed to again serve up a truly Cajun style Shrimp Jambalaya on Saturday evening for all who join in the fun filled weekend. This is also a good opportunity for non-racing sailors to sail (shadow) the course from Vendovi Island to Point Roberts (some 35 miles) and have a leisurely day on the water with a party at the destination. Call Mike Corcoran or Quinn to let them know how many shrimp to cook.
Canada Day (July 1) to Independence Day (July 4) A grand party weekend at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on Cadboro Bay. See April issue of The Jib Sheet, page 7, for schedule of events. Please sign up ASAP on web site or call Quinn or Roberta (676.5709). We need specific info including: arrival date, boat name, power or sail, and length and beam, as the RVYC staff need to make slip assignments before your arrival. Don’t forget to bring a “costume in a bundle” (disguised) for someone else to select and don for the “docktail party” on Saturday night. Q & R will again do their champagne breakfast on the clubhouse lawn on Sunday morning. A catered dinner is planned for Friday night in the RVYC Clubhouse. Sunday night we will anchor in Garrison Bay for the Roche Harbor Fourth of July Fireworks. Return to Belly-Wash on Monday, July 5.
Gourmet Cruise to the Gulf Islands, July 17 to 25. Because wonderful ambiance and elegant cuisine is offered by several notable restaurants in the Gulf Islands, this cruise will stretch over two weekends. Plan now to join the BYC flotilla for all or just a portion, whatever you can do. The plan is to start at “The Hastings House” in Ganges on Saturday, July 17, then on Wednesday dine at the “Quamichan Inn”, (moor at Maple Bay), and Thursday at “Deep Cove Chalet”, a fabulous French Country Inn. Since the Deep Cove Marina needs refurbishing, we plan to dock at Van Isle Marina in Sidney and use taxis/vans in time to enjoy the wonderful gardens. We will conclude the week with a Saturday evening at Genoa Bay Café (nee Grapevine) before returning to Bellingham on Sunday, July 25.
Destinations on the intervening mid-week days will be decided ad hoc by the group but possibilities include: Silva Bay, Pirate’s Cove, Montague Harbour, and Ladysmith. A BC Ferry trip from Telegraph Harbour to the touristy town of Chemainus, with some 30 beautiful murals is also on the “must do” list.
Bedwell Harbour, August 20- 22. Karen Bush and Sue C. Borgstrom of “Rocket”, are Cruisemasters for an exciting weekend of fun at the newly enlarged Resort at Bedwell Harbour. Details will be revealed later in the summer.
